He just walked away like nothing happened. There I was, in my bathrobe, standing in the doorway of my hotel room watching him walk away.
I closed the door and crawled into my bed.
What was I to do, every time he found a way to sweep me off my feet. I can’t deny he’s hot, cause he is. Any woman with a good pair of eyes could see that.
Maybe after this business trip he would leave me alone. The only thing I need to do is get through this.
With that in my mind I closed my eyes and soon drifted off to sleep.

It was an early morning for me. I dragged myself out of bed and strolled into the shower. That always helps me wake up in the morning.
Downstairs I quickly shoved some breakfast down my throat and hurried to the conference room to set everything up.
A few other men trickled in and around nine everyone was there. I opened up my laptop and started taking notes. I swear this was the most boring part of my job. Hearing a bunch of suits talk about business.
The weird thing was, Max totally ignored me. He only nodded at me as he came in. He didn’t say a word, he didn’t wink, he hardly looked, he did not even smile at me.
This man was confusing me so bad!
Finally, lunch break! I was ready to go outside and get some fresh air. I walked past Max, but again; nothing.
The sun was blinding me when I got out, I forgot my sunglasses. But that didn’t stop me from being outside. I sat on the lawn in front of the hotel. There was a nice fountain in the middle and at the end of the lawn there were palm trees. I watched people arrive and leave. There was a couple who just got married, well that’s what the sign on the back of their car said. The groom lifted the bride up and carried her all the way inside, laughing and kissing each other.
Some children were running around while I heard their parents say to calm down. I overheard another couple arguing, the girl ran off, leaving her boyfriend behind.

I checked my phone for the time, I had just enough time to eat a sandwich. So I got up and made my way back inside. When I walked into the dining area my eyes met up with his. Nothing happened. It was like he was looking right through me. He then turned around and continued his conversation with the man standing next to him. I wasn’t even hungry anymore so I went back to the conference room and grabbed a coffee there.
“Lunch break isn’t over yet, Mira”, Mr. Hensley said while I took a seat next to him. “I know.”
“Did you eat something?”, he asked, not looking away from the document he was reading.
“Yes I did”, I lied while opening up my laptop.
My eyes stared at the words in front of me, but I didn’t even know what they said. All I could think about was why Max ignored me after last night.
He was all flirty and now he acts like I don’t even exist.
Before I knew it everyone was back into the room and the meeting continued. Every now and then I had to hide my head behind my screen to yawn.
Just when I thought how much longer this would last I heard Max clear his throat.
“Okay, so tomorrow we will visit some of the property we talked about. This was it for today”, Max spoke as he stood up. “Gentlemen, thank you for joining us.”
Everyone gathered their stuff and left the conference room. I finished up my work and started packing my belongings too.
Mr. Hensley and Max were talking as I walked by them. I didn’t want to give Max any attention, but I knew I had to, as being a professional.
I stopped and turned around to face them.
“Mr. Woods, Mr. Hensley, I will see you tomorrow. Have a nice evening gentlemen”, I said with a nod and a small smile.
“Mira, would you please wait for me in the lobby. I’ll be right there”, Mr. Hensley said as he scratched the back of his head.
“Of course sir”, I answered and walked away.
“Bye Miss Prasad”, Max’s deep voice spoke just before I walked through the door.
It gave me chills down my spine.
As I didn’t want to give it anymore thoughts I walked to the lobby and waited there for Mr. Hensley.
All caught up in my thoughts I just sat there.
“Miss? Miss, excuse me”, some unfamiliar voice brought me back to reality.
I stared at a pair of dark brown eyes, who looked at me quizzically.
“Your phone has been ringing for a while now”, he said pointing out at my bag where my phone was hiding.
Embarrassed as I was I said a quick ‘thank you’. The friendly man, obviously amused by me, strolled to the main area with a smile on his face.
When I finally got hold of my phone it had stopped ringing. The screen said I had one missed call from my mother.
Just when I wanted to call her back I saw my boss walking up to me; Max next to him.
I got up when he was near me. Max walked along, again without even giving me a glare.
“Mira, I want to ask you if you want to stay with me for one more day. I need you with the little tour Mr. Woods has planned for tomorrow.”
“No problem sir. I will be there to accompany you. Is there anything else I can do for you?”
He asked if I wanted to join him for dinner so we could discuss what my tasks for tomorrow are. It was all fine by me, as long as Max wouldn’t be there too.

“Mom, hi.”
“Hi sweetie, how are you? Why didn’t you pick up your phone?”
So typical. The minute I don’t immediately pick up my phone she starts nagging about it.
“Yeah, sorry but I was kind of busy”, I told her.
“I called you an hour and half ago.”
“I know mom”, annoyance showing in my voice.
“So, what took you so long?”
“Mom”, I tried to stay calm. “I am in L.A for my work.”
It was quiet on the other end of the line.
“I’m still here. But why didn’t you tell me”, she asked.
I heaved a sigh and let myself fall down on my bed.
“Because this was all last minute and I didn’t think to call you. I’m sorry. Besides, I’m only here for a couple of days.”
My eyes were stuck on the ceiling as I heard another lecture by my mom. She was always this way. She didn’t understand I was busy from time to time.
She would always talk about my brother and how he would call her and talk to her. He had a busy job too, so if he could find the time, I could too.
“I will visit you and dad when I get back. Are you home Saturday night?”, I asked to compensate for not keeping her posted on every detail of my life.
“Sure honey. I’ll make you dinner. Maybe I can invite your brother too”, she said all cheerful now.
I rolled my eyes, oh great. Just what I needed. But I knew how much she liked it when we were all together so I said to her that I liked that idea and told her I had to go.

Quickly I unwrapped the towel that was in a bun on my head. I didn’t wear a fancy gown this time. Just a nice strapless black dress, simple but elegant.
Strolling to the table where Mr. Hensley was at, in the right corner of my eye I saw Max sitting alone at a table.
I took a seat and ordered my food. We started talking about the obligations we had the next day. While we were discussing this I saw Max glancing at me a couple of times. I tried not to give him any attention and ignored him.
After my desert I told my boss I was going to my room.

Patiently I waited for the elevator to come down.
“Hello Miss Prasad.”
My heart skipped a beat when I heard Max’s voice behind me. I turned around and there he was; a smirk on his face and arms crossed.
“Hello Mr. Woods”, I said and turned around again.
He came standing next to me, leaning against the elevator.
His eyes pierced into mine. I looked away and started tapping my foot.
After what seemed to be an eternity the elevator finally arrived.
“After you Miss”, he said while he held down the elevator doors.
I stepped in, he followed after me.
An awkward silence filled the small room as we both stood there and waited until we were brought to our floor.
I got out before he did and just when I stepped out he grabbed my wrist. My heart started beating faster and I had a hard time staying calm. What was he thinking? I turned my face to his and gave him an angry glare.
All he did was look me in my eyes and he brought his head close to mine. At that point I really thought he would kiss me. My eyes were glued to his, in anticipation for what he was going to do.
Just when he almost reached my lips his head turned to my side and his lips parted.

“I dreamed about you last night. Sweet dreams Miss Prasad”, he whispered. Then he let my wrist go. My head needed to process what he said. All numb I stepped out of the elevator. Before the doors closed I saw him winking at me.

For a few seconds I stood there, probably looking like a fool, watching the closed doors.
This man was a true mystery to me, I swear. What was his point? First he ignored me all day. Then he kept glancing at me and now he told me he dreamed about me.
Tossing and turning in my bed his words kept floating around in my head. I turned on the bed light and grabbed my phone. I decided to send him a text.

Stop playing games.

He didn’t send me anything back so I assumed he understood my message. With that in mind I finally drifted off to dreamland.
My alarm clock woke me up way too early. Well, that was what I thought when I turned it off. I just needed a few more minutes. Knowing I had to rush if I didn’t get up now I pushed away the sheets and let out a loud yawn.
After my morning ritual I put on a grey tube skirt, a white blouse and a grey blazer. As finishing touch I let my feet slip into these beautiful black stilettos.
I tied my hair up into a simple bun and grabbed my stuff.
Mr. Hensley was already waiting for me downstairs. We didn’t have time to eat breakfast here so we would grab something on our way.
My stomach was acting weird while on the way. I don’t know what it was, I couldn’t quit this feeling.
“We’re here sir”, our driver said as he pulled over.
The first building we went to was an expensive penthouse. The building itself looked really pretty, so I was wondering what we could do here.
The blistering heat from the sun was burning on my skull, while I waited outside the car for Mr. Hensley. He gave the driver some instructions.
“I think they are waiting for us”, he said as he walked up to me.
He led the way and we stepped into the building.
The fancy elevator brought us to the top floor, the penthouse.
I never asked any questions if it didn’t concern me or my job. This time I was too curious to not say anything.
“Mr. Hensley. I’m sorry for asking, but why are we here? I mean this building is already completed”, said I.
His eyes went from his phone to me and a friendly smile appeared on his face.
Then his eyes were glued to his phone again.
We heard a short jingle and the doors opened. A big hallway welcomed us as we stepped into it. The carpeting was very nice, I bet it was very soft too. It sure looked like it. The walls were covered with kitschy wall paper, but I’m sure it was very expensive.

A white door at the end was open and a lot of male voices echoed through the hall. When we arrived at the place there was a bunch of handshaking, greetings and small talk. In the meanwhile I was still wondering why we were here. It didn’t take long for me to find out, soon after we arrived Max started talking.
I learned that this was his property and that he wanted to rebuild this whole floor. Normally we wouldn’t do this kind of projects, they are too small for us, we wouldn’t even profit from it.
“Feel free to look around gentlemen”, he said after he shared some details with us.
I saw my boss walk to the kitchen area and I strolled behind him.
“Sir, I don’t want to be rude but shouldn’t we let this go to the others. We don’t really do these kinds of small projects”, I whispered to him as I took notes of what he was saying.
He turned around and smiled at me again.
“Please Mira. Don’t worry. It will be fine. Just take notes. At the end of the day we will discuss all of this, okay?”
He added a friendly nod and all I did was smile and nod in understanding.
The penthouse was beautiful, even though it was empty I could totally picture it with nice furniture and knick knacks.
As my mind drifted off, so did I and I ended up in what seemed to be the master bedroom. It had a beautiful big window. The room was very bright, one thing I liked about bedrooms. My own bedroom had a small window and could fit in this one twenty times I think.
My admiration for this room didn’t stay unperceived.
“You like this room don’t you?”
Startled by his voice echoing through the empty room I turned to face him.
His presence was impossible to ignore. The way he stood there, all fierce and confident. His expensive suit wrapped perfectly around him. Fitted like a glove.
His tight jawline, his perfectly shaped lips and the intensive look in his eyes made the picture complete.
“How do you know?”, I shot at him.
“I saw the look in your eyes”, he shot back.
“Maybe they are deceiving”, I teased.
“Those eyes can’t possibly be deceiving.”
“Don’t be so sure about that.”
He moved closer to me. His tall body was impressive, the way he moved it, so smooth and easy. The strong smell of his cologne floated around him. Finding its way to my nostrils, filling up my nose. Almost intoxicating, but in a good way.

There we were, standing across each other. Not saying anything. The heat of the sun was coming through the windows, heating our bodies up even more. The sexual tension was building up fast, like a match that was thrown into a trail of gas. Ready to explode any second.

Our little get together was roughly interrupted by two other men walking in. Max turned his attention from me to them.
Quick as lightning he went from alluring to professional.
After we saw this building we went to the next property. It was a longer drive as we went up to the hills. I only knew this part of L.A from magazines and TV shows. This was the part where a lot of celebrities lived.
The homes were hard to see, they were surrounded by big trees and fences. Every now and then a fast expensive car would pass us by.
I saw some people walking their dogs or jogging, but mostly it was very quiet around here.
We stopped in front of a big black fence. The gates opened and we drove up the driveway. On both sides there was a perfectly mowed green lawn.
The gravel was a real horror for me and my heels. I had to watch my step with every move I made. The house was looking beautiful from the outside. I couldn’t wait to see what it looked like on the inside. Huge white pillars were supporting the shed that was attached to the house.
The other men that we were with us were already looking around. Some of them were walking around in the big garden.
Mr. Hensley told me this was also the property of Max. These were usually the properties we would take on as a project, so I wasn’t surprised that we were visiting this one.
I asked Mr. Hensley if I could walk around a little before we would go through the official stuff. He told me it was okay. I didn’t often get a chance like this to walk around in fancy homes like his one.
I was always curious about what they would look like on the inside.
Max must have overheard our conversation asking me if I wanted a tour.
“Sure”, I agreed.
First stop was the kitchen. The area was big, bigger than my whole house.
It seemed like everything in here was huge, from the stove, to the fridge to the oven. It was very light, there were windows on two sides. The counter was all marble, as was the floor. The cabins were made out of cherry wood, matching the dining table. A beautiful sparkling chandelier was placed above the dining table. A fireplace on the left, behind the table made that part feel cozy and comfortable.
While I was looking around I could feel Max was watching my every move. Like a hawk in the sky, keeping an eye on its prey. His well built body was leaning against the island.
“Why are you so beautiful?”
His words caught me off guard. So random.
“You done ignoring me?”
A smirk appeared on his face. I lifted my eyebrows, wondering what was so funny.
“How can I ignore such beauty”, he said, moving away from the counter.
I rolled my eyes, tired of his sweet talk.
“Stop playing with me Max.”
Standing in front of me he was towering over me. Making me feel even smaller than I already was.
“The smell of your sweet perfume is intoxicating, Miss Prasad”, he spoke.
“I don’t wear perfume.”
“Even better.”
“I bet you are even looking pretty when you wake up”, he half whispered, rubbing his thumb on my bottom lip. His other hand was lazily stuffed in his pocket.
Every time he got near me it was like he was casting a spell on me with his eyes. I wanted to move but I couldn’t. I wanted to look away but our eyes were locked to each other. There was no way I could escape.
His breath was softly blowing against my face. Soft, steady breaths. Unlike mine. I was breathing heavily, like I just ran a marathon.
“Relax sweetheart. There is nothing to get wound up about”, his hypnotizing voice told me.
‘Easy for you to say’, I thought to myself.
He pulled his hands out of his pocket and walked away, just like that.
“Come on. Let’s take a look at the rest of this house”, he said like all of this never happened.
He left me standing there, desperately gasping for air. I accelerated my steps to keep up with him. He led me to the living room which was just as huge as all the other rooms. Next up was the first floor. Most rooms were the same, he told me they were guest rooms but they were never really used.
There were 3 bathrooms.
The master bedroom had its own bathroom attached to it. It reminded me of the room I woke up in when I was at Max’s home.
It all looked very cozy. Not like most homes where it’s all very modern and static. I don’t know who did the styling but I liked it.
There was a fireplace across the bed, I could imagine there must have been some romantic nights spent here. Sitting in front of the fireplace, moonlight peeking through the half closed lace curtains and stars sparkling in the night. Some romantic music softly playing against the background and some good wine to complete the realm.
“You’re dreaming again”, he said, pulling me out of my daydream.
I could feel I was blushing.
“You look cute when you do that. I wonder what you were thinking about.”
Curiosity filled his voice while asking. I left him curious, walking away with a smirk on my face.
The rest of the tour we didn’t talk much. It consisted of me looking around like a kid in a candy shop and him observing me like I was some kind of science project.

After this house we visited a few more like this. All were the property of Max. Or I think they were owned by his company. That’s when I realized he kind of lied to me when he said that he owned a small company. It was actually very big. Mr. Hensley told me these houses weren’t the only real-estate he owned. He had more in some other states.
When we got back to the hotel we had a lot of work to do. We needed to put down all the pro’s and con’s on this project and decide which ones we would like to do. We didn’t have much time, cause our plane would leave in a few hours. I was glad I got to go home.
This whole trip was exhausting to me. The work that had to be done, but especially Max. I don’t know what kind of game he was playing.
No time to think about that now, work needed to be done and I had to finish up packing too.
